What is an EEPROM or EPRM Reset in Spas?

Are you experiencing unusual spa behaviour, like pump malfunctions or control errors? An EEPROM or EPRM reset could be the solution you need. This guide will explain what it is, how it works, and when to use it.

EEPROM Reset

Is your spa not working as expected? Maybe the pump isn’t working, or the controls seem off. Before calling a technician, consider an EEPROM or EPRM reset.

This simple process can fix many common spa issues by restoring the system’s settings. But when is it the right solution, and what problems can it solve?

Let’s break it down and see how this reset could help you fix common spa control issues.

Key Takeaways

  • EEPROM (or EPRM) reset refers to resetting the spa’s memory to resolve control or configuration issues.
  • It’s especially useful for resolving problems with Pump A, which typically controls the circulation pump.
  • Common causes of issues include airlocks, misconfigured pumps, or errors in spa system programming.
  • An EEPROM reset is not a universal fix but can help resolve specific control-related glitches.
  • Understanding the underlying cause of the problem will help determine if a reset is necessary.

Important: A licensed electrician must carry out all electrical work on your spa. Any electrical information included here, whether it is troubleshooting or other instructions, is provided for use by a licensed electrician only. Local electrical codes supersede any information found here.

What is an EEPROM or EPRM reset in spas?

An EEPROM or EPRM reset refers to the process of resetting the electronic control module or memory chip in the spa pool's control system.

EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) is a type of non-volatile memory that stores data even when the power is turned off.

EPRM (Electrically Programmable Read-Only Memory) is a similar type of memory that is programmed during manufacturing and typically cannot be reprogrammed.

The EEPROM or EPRM reset is usually performed to troubleshoot and resolve any spa pool operation issues. It's like restarting a computer when it's not working correctly.

This reset can resolve many software glitches or configuration issues in the control system, allowing the spa pool to function properly again.

When should you perform an EEPROM or EPRM reset in spas?

Performing an EEPROM or EPRM reset is particularly effective in the following scenarios:

The Spa Is Operating Erratically

If your spa is turning pumps or heaters on and off unexpectedly or displaying other erratic behaviour, the issue could be a corrupted control system. A reset can help recalibrate the system and resolve these issues.

Pumps Not Working or Displays Acting Strangely

If the pumps are not functioning correctly, blowers only work for a few seconds, or the display shows strange characters and symbols or is blank, these symptoms can indicate a memory corruption issue that an EEPROM reset may resolve.

The Spa Is Not Responding

When the control panel is unresponsive to input or some functions seem frozen, a reset may resolve the problem by refreshing the control programming.

The Spa Is Not Heating

A failure to heat without any corresponding error code can indicate a programming issue, especially if the heater and circulation pump appear to be functioning correctly.

No Error Codes Are Displayed

In cases where the spa is malfunctioning but no error code is being shown, the problem might not be hardware-related but instead linked to corrupted EEPROM data.

What should you check before doing an EEPROM or EPRM reset?

Before diving into an EEPROM or EPRM reset, it’s important to rule out other common issues that might be affecting your spa’s operation. Addressing these issues first can save time and ensure your spa is operating as intended.

Are You Using the Right Button to Control the Circulation Pump?

In most spa models, Pump A controls the circulation pump, which is responsible for water movement through the heater for consistent temperature. However, some spa owners mistakenly expect Pump A to control a jet pump.

Before performing a reset, verify what Pump A is actually controlling. Misunderstandings about pump configuration can lead to unnecessary troubleshooting steps.

For Vortex™ and Fisher™ Spas, where Pump A operates the circulation pumps, the touchpad will consistently provide ON/OFF and AUTO options. This ensures that the button is solely managing the circulation pump, not the jet pump.

Could There Be an Air Lock?

Airlocks, especially in the circulation pump, can also cause heating issues or erratic operation. If the spa is not heating or circulating water, check for air locks and bleed the system if necessary before performing a reset.

How to reset the SpaNet® SV Mini 1 and SV Mini 2 controller software (EPRM)

Important: All user software setting values are reset to factory default including the Set temperature of 38°C. Electrical settings in the configuration menu such as C.LMT (current limit) and L.SHD (load shed) settings will NOT be adjusted as they have been customised to suit the particular spa pool and its available power supply by the spa manufacturer or installing electrician.

How to do EPRM reset on SpaNet® SV Mini 1 and SV Mini 2

To perform an EPRM reset on SpaNet® SV Mini 1 and SV Mini 2, please follow the steps below:

  • Step 1. To access the OEM config menu on an SV Mini 1 press and hold the hidden buttons (SV Mini 1 image - shown by the red dotted circles aside) simultaneously until the display shows L.SHD. For SV Mini 2, press and hold the PUMP C + BLOWER buttons simultaneously (See SV Mini 2 image ).
  • Step 2. Use the DOWN arrow button to navigate through the configuration menu items until EPRM is displayed. When EPRM is displayed on screen press the OK button to execute the software reset.
  • Step 3. The display will very briefly flash ESET as the reset process takes place.
  • Step 4. Once the display returns to the temperature, it is best practice to reset the mains power and then (turn off/on) to reboot the control if an EPRM factory reset has been performed.

How to reset SpaNet® SV Series (SV2-VH / SV3-VH / SV4-VH)

To perform an EPRM reset on SpaNet® SV Series (SV2-VH / SV3-VH / SV4-VH), please follow the steps below:

  • Step 1. To carry out an Eeprom reset, access the OEM config menu on an SV controller by pressing and holding the “Air Blower” and “Water Clean” buttons simultaneously until the display shows “C.LMT”.
  • Step 2. Press the DOWN arrow button twice until “EPRM” is displayed.
  • Step 3. When “EPRM” is displayed on the screen press the OK button to execute the software reset. The display will very briefly flash “ESET” as the reset process takes place.
  • Step 4. Once the display returns to the temperature, it is best practice to reset the main power (i.e. turn off/on) to reboot the control after the EPRM factory reset has been performed.

How to Perform an EEPROM Reset on SpaNet® SmartTouch™ Touchpad

If you're using a SpaNet SmartTouch™ touchpad and need to perform an EEPROM (EPRM) reset, follow these steps carefully. This reset will restore the system to its factory settings, helping to resolve software-related issues. Steps to Perform an EEPROM Reset:

Step 1. Adjust the Set Temperature

Before starting the reset, change the Set Temperature to a value other than 38°C (e.g., 36°C or 40°C). This step will help you confirm whether the reset has been successful.

Step 2. Access the Settings Menu

Press the settings icon on the touchpad to open the settings menu.

Step 3. Navigate to the Reset Option

Use the DOWN arrow on the right side of the screen to scroll through the menu. Locate and select the “EPRM Factory Data Reset” option.

Step 4. Confirm the Reset

Press the green button labeled “EPRM Press to Reset Settings” to confirm. Wait for the touchpad to process and confirm that the settings have been saved.

Step 5. Return to the Main Display

Use the back arrow at the top of the screen to navigate back to the main display.

Step 6. Verify the Reset

Check if the Set Temperature has been automatically reset to 38°C. If the Set Temperature has not reset to 38°C, repeat Steps 2–6 until it does.

Step 7. Power Cycle the Spa

After completing the EPRM reset, it’s good practice to turn the mains power off and then back on. This ensures the control system fully reboots when the factory settings are applied.
